Dawn of the Black Hearts is a live album by the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem, released in 1995. The album cover is infamous for its graphic nature, featuring a real photograph of the deceased band member Per “Dead” Ohlin after his suicide in 1991. The image shows Dead’s body with slit wrists and a shotgun wound to the head, lying on a bed in a room. The band’s logo and album title are written in red on the bottom right corner of the cover. The controversial cover has been the subject of much criticism and debate, with many arguing that it is in poor taste and disrespectful to the deceased. Despite the controversy, the album has become a cult classic in the black metal scene.
